Part 2: Understanding importance of the Privacy Act

Now that we defined the why we are driven to accept vaccine passes; I believe the next part is to define what freedom is especially in context of personal freedoms so in part 3 we can discuss in detail why we cannot participate in a vaccine pass, “show me your papers” society.

The issue with understanding goes back to the first blog I wrote on left versus right theology.

But this an opportunity to define each’s idea of what freedom is and why this affects us and why we can not participate in the use of vaccine passes.

Freedom is a word that we like to throw around.

It’s seems that it is a word that we like to project different meaning on it without really defining the term. It is almost as if for many of us; we have a different definition of the word. I would add that our world view (another blog post if vancitygreeks would like) is what drives it.

So what is freedom? What is personal freedom?

For those believing in Left ideology, it seems that the definition is tied in with a reward system and consequences.

For socialists (those who mix communistic ideology with capitalism), freedom is nothing if you do not have enough to eat, denied access to adequate healthcare, housing transportation, education, and things like that. So therefore; it is better to give up personal freedoms because it becomes “selfish.” It is about the greater “good” but for most conservatives would then ask; who decides what the greater good is? Who creates these rules? Who makes sure that those in power is not abusing it.

There is an excellent World War 2 film(Night Train to Munich: available on YouTube) where a “nazi officer” defines freedom in a socialistic country (the left is desperate for us to think that the Nazis were not part of the left mentality but they forgot it was even in the name of Hitler’s party; National Socialist German Workers' Party) as “properly organized and controlled by the state.” In other words, they claim to have “freedom” but there are strict rules attached to it and if not followed then freedom will be taken away. If the rules are followed then rewards are given such as to participating in society. Sound familiar? Citizens can have a false sense of security and sense of freedom in this system as long as they believe in the “party line.” Sound familiar? Personally, I see many Canadian falling for this and are lulled in a sense of security believing their government has its best intentions for them. We can never be lulled into silence or acceptance but must always be questioning our government as remember they are our employees. We voted them in and pay their salaries through our taxes.

In authoritarianism style of government, which many of our government officials currently seem to favour; personal freedom is a no no. Instead, citizens follows with blind submission to the rules given by the leader or small group of people (cough cough Dr. Tam and Trudeau). The theory is that the average citizen can not make those kind of decisions on their own so personal freedom is a no. I have also seen many Canadians say things like “I’m ok with my freedom gone because at least we are being kept safe” or “safety is way more important than freedom so if you think so then you are selfish.”

There always seems to be a lot of trust involve; “trust the science” (that’s another blog for sure) is an excellent example of this. It seems to have an almost religious blind obedience in following it.

I’m reminded of C.J.Lewis’ quote: "of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive." C.S Lewis

So what is personal freedom in a democratic country?

Freedom Of Speech

Freedom of the Press

Freedom of Religion/Beliefs

It is the protection of the individual over the collective. It is the foundation of Christian beliefs. In Matthew 18:12, we see the shepherd leaving his 99 sheep behind to find the one who strayed away.

In Western Society, we see it in many books and movies. Comic Books often use this mentality. In Captain America; The first Avenger movie, we see this mentality clearly played out when Captain risks his own life to save Bucky. Captain forgets about his men for a moment to make sure Bucky is safe. We as the audience is fully on board of it so it was quite easy for us to see him later as a repentant hero in the the ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ series. Our western ethics and morality are based off Matthew 18:12 so even if we are not Christians or aware of this; we still follow it. If we are Christians, then this has to be the foundation of the way we approach our lives. It is why we try as Christians to give to the poor, help those around us, and respect medical decisions of others even if we disagree with it for ourselves.

In a country with personal freedom, citizens are very active in the well-being and sovereignty of their country so they actively take a role in politics from community boards, to town halls, to debates to of course most important voting. Citizens do not always agree on what is best for their country but they respect each other to figure it and work together. Sometimes they “agree to disagree,” as there is always a sense of respect between everyone.

It is important for these citizens to practice personal accountability and responsibility. Citizens respect each other’s decisions even if they do not always make sense to each other.

So in a democracy, vaccine passes can not play a role in making citizens “play good” to participate in society. It can not be an incentive program to be part of the “greater good” or coerce the public to be part of a group mentality.

So the choice is yours? Will you use yours to participate in society? Will you let your local MLA and MP that you believe in democracy and will not be part of the current agenda and demand as they are elected officials. They must listen to their voting public. I recommend that you call them, and write to them respectful demanding that they must start listening to their voting public. Don’t let the loud few of the left be our voice by being silent.

The choice is yours.
